Heat the water to just below boiling point, around 175°F to 190°F (80°C to 87°C).
Place one teaspoon of fresh green tea leaves in a cup or small saucepan. Pour hot but not boiling water over the tea leaves and cover.
Steep for about 2-3 minutes, depending on your taste preference (the longer it steeps, the stronger the flavor).
Remove from heat source once done to prevent further extraction of tannins which can make green tea bitter.
