Ingredients:
  • All-purpose flour: 5 cups
  • Warm water: 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons
  • Active dry yeast: 2 teaspoons or 7 grams
  • Sugar: 1/4 cup plus an extra pinch for dissolving in water
  • Unsalted butter, softened: 6 tablespoons or 3/4 stick (90 grams)
Directions:

In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast over it. Let sit until foamy—about five minutes.

Using an electric mixer with paddle attachment or by hand using wooden spoon (it will be very sticky), beat together flour and butter till crumbly, then add eggs one at a time to make soft dough.
