Servings: Makes approximately 2 loaves or one large challah.
Ingredients:
- Water: 1 cup
- Milk: 1/2 cup
- Sugar: 3 tablespoons
- Active dry yeast: 1 package (about 7 grams)
- Eggs: 2 large
- Butter, melted: 6 tablespoons plus extra for brushing
- Salt: 1 teaspoon
- Flour (bread or all-purpose flour): 5 cups
Directions:
In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast over it. Let sit until foamy, about 10 minutes.
Beat eggs lightly with an electric mixer on medium speed for one minute
add butter to mixture while mixing at low-speed. Scrape down sides of bowl occasionally as necessary during this process.
