To make the churro dough, mix together 1 cup all-purpose flour with water (start by using just a bit less than half of what's in your measuring cup and add more as needed) until it forms a thick but pliable batter.
Prepare an oil mixture for deep frying. Heat about 2 inches worth of vegetable or canola oil (or another high-smoke point cooking fat) to around 375 degrees Fahrenheit in a large, heavy pot over medium heat. Transfer the batter into this hot oil and carefully drop spoonfulsβthe churros should be about an inch apart. Cook until golden brown on all sides
flip them occasionally for even cooking.
